The Mag 10 is a completely different design than the Model 51. I've never owned a Mag 10 but a friend of mine does for turkey. He has nothing bad to say about it, other than he wishes that Ithaca had marketed an optional wheel kit to make it easier to lug over the hills. I don't see any talk of chronic fault issues popping up in my limited reading on the Mag 10.

I just took a look @ the schematic for the Mag 10 on the Gun Parts Corp website. While of different design than the Model 51, it shows part number 14 to be a half moon shaped "bolt buffer". I assume that part would serve the same purpose as the cylindrical bolt buffer located inside the Model 51 bolt . If the Mag 10 bolt buffer is made out of the same plastic that the Model 51 buffers are, I'd have to think that Mag 10 buffer would also be consider a wear item also. It might be worth the time to inspect your Mag 10 bolt & buffer for wear. Even with guns that have seen little use, plastic items such as that tend to become brittle over time anyway. I see that Gun Parts shows the part as "sold out", a possible indication of demand . Diamond Gun Smithing may be able to supply it.

I also was just made aware of a company, Skal-Tec Ballistics (www.skaltec.com), who is supplying a newly manufactured slide featuring rails made of CNC machined 4100 steel. They also supply Model 51 recoil springs and buffers.
