Kimber Custom II. Nothing fancy, but it works (most of the time)

Here is a 1911 that proves that not all guns made that year were good. I give you gentlemen, the Winchester 1911 Self Loader, affectionately known as the "headbuster" and "widowmaker".

The Italians have a saying. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." And although they've never won a war or mass-produced a decent car, in this area they are correct.

No but I want one as a wall hanger.

This was Winchesters attempt to get around Brownings patents on the Auto 5. Notice it does not even have a bolt handle. You had to rack the barrel by pushing it into the receiver to load it. That is why the barrel is knurled.

The wood was laminate and they used shitty glue to they separate over time

    they crack forearms

They have a FIBER recoil buffer that rotted and fell out. When it did, and you kept shooting it, the gun busted or locked up.

And they couldn't use a friction piece like the Auto 5 so it just ran on a spring. They kicked 2x as hard and if you shot heavy loads in them, they busted.

There were rumors that if you sent the gun in for repair, you got a model 12 pump back in the mail.

Winchester did better with the Model 1940, but the war killed it. The model 50 was ok for light loads, and the Model 59 used a fiberglass wrapped, steel sleeved barrel.

Winchester never made a great semi auto until the Super X1, and even those busted thanks to bad steel.
